Around the Primary

Dear Parents

It was fantastic to have a full house at our Twilight Swimming Carnival last night. There certainly was a great atmosphere, some terrific team relays along with some amazing individual performances. All participants can be very proud of themselves - excellent swimming, excellent behaviour, excellent attitude! Way to go John XXIII!

Thank you to all the staff and parents who attended the swimming carnival. It was lovely to see some new faces as well as our regular faces too. Thanks for your commitment and time. Special thanks to Mr Alderman who always organises our sporting events with such professionalism and passion.

Congratulations to all the Houses:

A big thank you to Miss Nish and the students of 6G for preparing our first assembly of the term. The students dressed up as famous Australians and shared their iMovies. We were also fortunate to have a special guest Shelley Taylor-Smith, a former Australian long-distance swimmer, share her story and inspire all the students to reach for their dreams.

The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment of all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The students will be assessed in language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation), writing, reading and numeracy. The tests are scheduled for the mornings of Tuesday 14th May, Wednesday 15th May and Thursday 16th May. An information brochure has been sent home this week with students in Years 3 and 5 - please check your child's school bag.

An important reminder, do you have a child starting Kindy in 2015? If so, please make sure that our Registrar, Kate Parker, has the enrolment form so that your child can be included on our 2015 sibling Kindy list.

John XXIII is a great community and it is hoped that all families will support the following events:

Primary Picnic Saturday 9th March
Primary Mass Friday 15th March
College Open Day Saturday 16th March
Primary HouseDay Friday 5th April (more information will follow)
Parent Interviews commencing Monday 8th April (more information will follow)

Please mark these special events on your family's calendar.

Thank you to the Parents' Association for all the work and preparation they have put into the family picnic. I look forward to seeing lots of families on the primary oval on Saturday night.

Kind regards
