Around the Primary

Dear Parents

Our Year 6's returned from Canberra last Friday night a little weary but full of exciting stores to share. Our students proved to be wonderful ambassadors for their families and our College as they explored Canberra and visited many educational destinations such as, Parliament House (old and new), the War Memorial, CSIRO, Portrait Gallery, the National Museum and Government House.

In addition, Julie Bishop MP joined our students at the Australian War Memorial and participated in a wreath laying ceremony in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Some lovely photos can be located on the following website.

We would like to thank the Australian Government for contributing $260 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards the travel expenses incurred. To add to this very special experience the students and staff stayed at the Australian Institute of Spot for the duration of their trip and also participated in various recreational options around our National Capital.

It was a very successful trip with much to learn from the information guides at each destination and from the opportunity to practise some independent living skills. Special thanks to Mrs Fry, Mrs Scott, Mrs Gardner, Mr Edwards, Mrs Goss, Mr Izzard and Mr Moylan for accompanying the students.

Congratulations to all the students who received a certificate at today's assembly. It is terrific that we have so many hard-working students in our school.

Special thanks to Mrs Fontaine and 5G for preparing today's informative assembly item. Our 'fantastic fives' confidently shared details about their favourite sport, favourite story about Jesus and also their hopes for the future. Please take a few minutes to look at their lovely artwork.

As part of their LOTE program, our Year 5 students visited a Japanese restaurant for lunch on Tuesday. The restaurant staff were very impressed with the student's table manners and Japanese language skills. A big thank you to Sensei Aghdasi for organising this cultural experience for our students.

Another bus arrived at school on Tuesday to take our Year 2's to the Literacy Centre in Fremantle. From all accounts, the children thoroughly enjoyed the excursion and have discovered their artistic talents!

Special Request

Do you pick your children up from the 'loop' in front of the main Administration block?

If so, you need a 'family name card' for your car!

If you require a new or an extra name card please Philpot.catherine@johnxxiii.edu.au and Mrs Philpot will print a card for your family.

Attendance Matters

Congratulations and thank you to all those parents who have made an effort to book holidays in school holiday time - this is absolutely wonderful and assists with your child's learning.
