Around the Primary

Dear Parents,

Our Year Six students were commissioned as Leaders at today's assembly. All of the Year 6's have a leadership role and belong to a specific portfolio, such as, 'Events', 'Community', Liturgy' or 'Sport' (this comprises of 12 House Captains). Congratulations to all our leaders who are now proudly wearing their leadership badges. We can now look forward to seeing them in action around our Primary community.

Next Thursday, 2 March our Twilight Swimming Carnival will be held at Claremont Pool. The students have worked very hard during their recent swimming lessons and many have been training after-school too. It is hoped all families will be represented at this Carnival and support all of our students while they compete. The students are also very excited about starting late (11am) on Friday 3 March. Supervision will be provided from 10.45 am and normal lessons will commence from 11 am.

Kindy 2019 enrolment interviews will begin next term. Please ensure you have submitted an enrolment form for your child to begin Kindy at the College. Please contact Laurence Dubuisson, our school Registrar if you have any queries. dubuisson.laurence@johnxxiii.edu.au

Also, on 11 March we will open the doors of the College for prospective families. We particularly encourage families from the Primary school to come along and see the wonderful facilities in the Secondary school.

The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment of all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Students will be assessed in Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation), Writing, Reading and Numeracy. The tests are scheduled for the morning of Tuesday 9 May, Wednesday 10 May and Thursday 11 May. The best way you can help your child prepared for NAPLAN is to reassure your child that NAPLAN tests are just one part of their school program, and to urge them to simply do the best they can do on the day. Children's NAPLAN reports will be issued in mid-August. An information brochure will be distributed to all Year 3 and 5 students today.

Congratulations to our Merit Award Recipients

Special thanks to all the parents who have:

  • enrolled their children in Sacramental programs at their home Parish. We look forward to supporting the children as they take the next step in their Sacramental journey.
  • visited the office to 'sign-out' their child/ren for appointments.
  • informed us of your child's absence from school.

John XXIII is a great community and it is hoped all families will support the following events:

Kind regards
