Around the Primary

During Religious Education lessons this week the children learnt that Lent is a special time when we get ready for Easter and to remember that Jesus died for us, rose and gave us His Spirit. At home, please encourage the children to do something special during Lent, such as, attend Mass on the weekend; share with their friends; pray every day; read a Bible story; listen to their parents and teachers; contribute to Project Compassion …

Let's all try and make Lent 2012 a valuable spiritual time!

The Primary Twilight Swimming Carnival was a huge success on Thursday evening. There were some terrific team relays along with some gutsy individual performances. Amidst a few goggle malfunctions all participants can be very proud of themselves - great swimming, great behaviour, great attitude! Way to go John XXIII!

Congratulations to all the Houses

Many thanks to all those parents who challenged their child to participate even if they felt nervous or worried about participating in an event - this is excellent modelling and character building for your child.

Mr Alderman was proud of our students as each one gave their very best and swam hard to the very end - BRAVO to all our swimmers! Special thanks to Mr Alderman who always organises our sporting events with professionalism and passion.

It certainly was a full house at Claremont Pools last night with great atmosphere and results. Thank you to all the staff and parents who attended the swimming carnival. It was lovely to see some new faces as well as our regular faces too. Thanks for your commitment and time.

Today our Year 1, 2 and 3 students welcomed Captain Cleanup, an Australian environmental superhero to the Primary School. Captain Cleanup discussed with the children how we all can make a difference to the environment and take responsibility for making sure that waste is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner and also become energy and water wise. Captain Cleanup specifically motivated the children to put their rubbish in the bin and to take pride in our beautiful school. I'm sure we will see a noticeable improvement around the primary grounds!

An important reminder, do you have a child starting Kindy in 2014? If so, please make sure that our Registrar, Kate Parker, has the enrolment form so that your child they can be included on our 2014 sibling Kindy list.

John XXIII is a great community and it is hoped that all families will support the following events:

  • Assembly Friday 9th March - Kindly organised by 3B. Year 6 Leadership badges will also be distributed.
  • Primary Picnic Saturday 10th March
  • Parent Interviews commencing Monday 19th March (more information will follow)

Please mark these special events on your family's calendar.
