Around the Primary

Dear Parents

Thank you for attending our Parent Information Meetings this week. Your presence and support of all the staff was greatly appreciated. Please continue to support the teachers as it gives your child a greater sense of security knowing we are all working as a team. Information presented on the night can be found on the College Website. http://www.johnxxiii.edu.au/view/primary/2017-primary-parent-information-evenings

Each year the Primary staff reflect upon the previous year's data from assessments and also look at trends over time, in order, to set the direction for our Literacy and Numeracy planning. This year we will be focussing on developing the student's comprehension skills, such as, predicting, visualising, inferring, summarising and synthesising. Teaching and learning is what we are about and we work very hard to ensure that improvement and growth is what drives us forward.

EduDance 2015 was a wonderful success and another opportunity for us to come together as a community to celebrate. Last year our PP-6 students participated in eight lessons with a qualified dance instructor. The students learnt much about persisting, working as a team, doing one's best, 'having-a-go' and aiming for excellence. In addition, the students learnt many new dance moves and had lots of fun in the process. I am pleased to inform everyone that the EduDance program will return in term four.

We began the Season of Lent on Ash Wednesday. The Years 3-6 students participate in a Liturgy of the Word with Deacon Peters and he reminded our community that during the Lenten season we should try to make an effort to become more like Jesus. The Junior Primary received the ashes during their class reflections. The children were intrigued to learn that the ashes they received on their foreheads were made from the burning of palm leaves which were saved from last year's Palm Sunday.

Attached is a 'Family Lent Calendar' to assist your family to walk through the forty days of your Lenten journey. May this Lent be a time of reflection, prayer and good works; a time to think about what is really important in our lives and to live prayerfully, full of mercy and compassion.

Congratulations to our Year 6 Leaders for 2016

At Kindy this week each child was given an olive tree sapling. We look forward to seeing the children (and their olive trees) grow and flourish. We would love to receive some photos of the trees planted this year (and in previous years) in their home gardens.
