John XXIII Rowing Club consists of rowers and parents and is parent run. Any financial rower is a member as are his/her family. The committee, consisting of approximately 8 parent members, organizes the various required activities including fund raising, maintenance, camps, and the club depends upon the support of members to help run rowing camps, organize fundraising events, repair boats, recruit new members and generally assist in the conduct of its operations.
Each year, usually in May, office bearers (President Secretary, Treasurer, etc) and other Committee members are elected by club members at the Annual General Meeting. The office bearers have specific duties under the club’s constitution. The president is responsible for ensuring good communication between the committee and the school. The secretary organises the committees roles and the treasurer is responsible for organising the budget. In addition a coordinator for each year group, camp coordinators, and a boat maintenance officer are required (see Parent Volunteer Sheet). Day to day operations, organization of the rowing shed, scheduling of training sessions, and crew selection are roles of the Rowing Coordinator.
The Committee meets several times a year and reviews the activities of the office bearers and considers club policies and activities. Parents are welcome to enquire about the running of the club, or to become involved in. |
