About Us

John XXIII College Rowing Club has a relatively short but proud history. Our rowers have competed against tough competition from other schools in Perth and some have also gone on to State, National and International competitions. The club has an inclusive philosophy. Rowers of all levels are catered for and comprehensive training and instruction is provided. Rowers who are prepared to work hard will be included in a crew and can expect to race in regattas. Rowing has something for everybody! Smaller students who would be interested in steering the boat and directing the crew are especially encouraged to join the club as a cox.

Participation in rowing can provide your son / daughter with:

  • a high level of fitness guided by dedicated experienced coaches
  • an introduction to a sport that can be enjoyed for life
  • the chance to make new and lasting friendships
  • a real sense of teamwork
  • the responsibility of looking after valuable boats and equipment
  • the joy of being on the river at sunrise

The rowing season commences for:

  • Boys in Year 8 at the beginning of Term 4 – with the competition in Term 1 of Year 9 (changes to the boys’ programme are under consideration with a view to enhancing the level of competition);
  • Girls in Year 9 at the beginning of Term 2 – with the competition throughout Term 2 and 3;
  • Coxes are also encouraged to join the club from Year 8.

Message to Parents

As a parent of a rower you will see your child grow into a strong, fit and confident young person and you will have the opportunity to meet and mix with a great group of parents. You will be encouraged to become involved with the running of the club and all parents participate in the club’s activities in some way.
